Momento Mori

These are two out of the three artworks I constructed in Nantes out of dried out and pressed Rose petals (yes a lot of guerilla runs in the night around the neighborhood pinching plants) and Black Biro on paper. The idea of the piece was to connote the term "Momento Mori", "Remember your mortality, remember you will die" as a contemporary response and take on the Medieval paintings of Momento Mori paintings in the Dutch Golden Age, using some of the traditional symbols and icons associated and used commonly in these works.
But here the artwork itself physically ages and dies as the flower petals age and lose their colour so it is a living/dying artwork in itself. I wish I brought them back with me but I left in some art room at Lecole De Design. Boooooo. They are probably nice and mouldy now ^.^
