CRATER OR HOLE: Symbol of the opening into the unknown.

"What comes out the otherside (beyond what is particular or familiar) what leads to what is hidden (beyond what is obvious). For our imagination, the hole is richer in meanings that the mere emptiness: It is pregnant with the potentialities of what could fill it or the ones of what could fit through its opening: it is like the waiting for something or the sudden revelation of a presence. Thus the hole has a double meaning which is both immanent and transcendental: it opens the inside to the outsider ; it connects the outside to the other."
