So we finally saw a REAL Del Kathryn Barton work, up close and personal. It was pretty intense. I almost had heart failure it was so beautiful. honestly.
Because the stpry is, we (being another two peoples in particular) have always seemed to fail when it comes to seeing a certain exhibition of importance (such as the last Del Kathryn Exhibition late last year in Paddington) due to fate or just us being lazy BUT NEVERTHELESS we pulled up our socks and we went to the art gallery of NSW because it was the last day of artexpress (you can't miss your own graduating year, I mean really) and then followed on to see the Wilderness exhibition, or just Del Kath in particular.
We almost fell over when we first caught sight of the most amazing (and huge ass) 3 canvases on the wall and the security guard thought we were very odd from the strange gurgling sounds of stupefication we were making when we found it.
Her work is honestly amazing, so intricate and detailled and eerie with the strange boobs and vaginas flying out of every available space but oh so hauntingly beautiful.
There's no other like her.
Definitely go and check this exhibition out if you have the time, definitely worth it, my crappy iphone cannot do the Barton her justice:
This exhibition considers how nature and landscape continue to preoccupy contemporary painters. Not nature based on observation, however, but a realm of vivid imaginary landscapes, creatures both natural and unnatural, and humans who seem to emerge like wood sprites from the forest. The 'wild' here is found in the mind of the artists.
Wilderness brings together 14 of Australia’s best contemporary painters, including Del Kathryn Barton, Daniel Boyd, Tony Clark, Louise Hearman, Mary Scott, Fiona Lowry and Michael Zavros.
